Though quality runs through every acre of Hartsbourne, there is little doubt that the golfing facilities represent the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the club’s offering. The 27 holes are as challenging as they are steeped in history and offer our members a premium golfing experience that few can rival.
Just five years from its 100th anniversary, the 27 holes of Hartsbourne have pioneered quality golfing architecture since its inception in 1922. First laid out by legendary ‘golf-smith’ F.G. Hawtree and his business partner, five-time Open Champion J.H. Taylor, the course at Hartsbourne was one of the first to benefit from modern greenkeeping science and bunker construction – allowing the course to blend effortlessly into the surrounding parkland.
Given the Hawtree dynasty grew to become one of the most prestigious practices in golf architecture, it is little surprise that the Hartsbourne course has attracted some elite level golfers. Six-time Ryder Cup participant Peter Oosterhuis holds the course record with an incredible 62, while 1957 Ryder Cup winning captain Dai Rees won the Goray Championships here in 1954 playing alongside the «Voice of British golf», Peter Alliss.
